After a car crash leaves novelist Paul Sheldon badly injured, Annie Wilkes takes him into her remote home to recover. A former nurse and an enthusiastic reader of his books, she seems to offer exactly the care he needs. Then she reads his latest manuscript and discovers what he has done to her favorite character. Annie has a demand: Paul will write another book, and this time the story will go her way. Unable to leave, he must learn how to manage the person who controls his recovery and his future. William Goldman’s stage adaptation of Stephen King’s novel builds suspense through the shifting balance between writer and reader.
