PRODUCTION STAFF – RESIDENT COMPANY

WORKING AT TLP

Timber Lake Playhouse is the oldest continuously operating professional summer theatre company in Illinois. Celebrating its 58th season, the Playhouse is located on four acres about 140 miles west of downtown Chicago and 2 miles south of Mount Carroll.  Since 1962, TLP has served thousands of young artists in the transition from educational to professional work. The 371 seat indoor theatre has a revolving stage and a 45′ wide proscenium space, allowing for excellent production values. Housing, shops, and meal facilities are all located in 15 other buildings on the property. Timber Lake Resort is located across the street from the Playhouse. While we are not officially affiliated, the resort gives our company members free access to a beautiful in-ground pool and various other activities.

First Assistant Stage Manager

  • Serve as Assistant Stage Manager for all mainstage productions including management and organization of all backstage activities. Serve as Stage Manager for Magic Owl Children’s Theatre production.
  • Assist Production Stage Manager in all duties.
  • Prepare spaces for all rehearsals, including sweeping, mopping, presetting props and scenic elements, and ensuring water is available for performers and staff.
  • Other duties as assigned by company leadership necessary for maintaining the integrity of the season.

A2/ ASSISTANT MASTER ELECTRICIAN

  • Assist Sound Designer on deck and possible sound mixer during shows on our Midas M32 audio board.
  • Assist ME on lighting hangs and focus and run light board for specific shows.
  • Set up sound cables and equipment as needed under direction of Sound Designer.
  • Set up light cables and equipment as needed under direction of Lighting Designer or Master Electrician.
  • Responsibilities include all productions at TLP including, but not limited to Mainstage, TYA, High school, Deck Series and Concerts.

SOUND DESIGNER/ AUDIO MIXER

  • Design, procure and create all live and recorded sound effects for all productions to the specifications of Directors and Artistic Director. Productions include mainstage, TYA and high school musical as
  • Create and execute functional microphone plots for actors and musicians for each production.
  • Execute all aspects of sound design and amplification at each performance on our Midas M32 audio board.
  • Be familiar with Q-Lab for editing and show running cues.
  • Maintain company equipment and workspaces and report status issues to company leadership.
  • Maintain budgets and operations as directed by Artistic Director and Executive Director.
  • Provide Stage Manager with microphone plots as early as possible.
  • Oversee crews as necessary.
  • Set-up and maintain sound system for Deck Series in TLP’s outdoor stage.
  • Other duties as assigned by company leadership necessary for maintaining the integrity of the season.

MASTER ELECTRICIAN/LIGHTING DESIGNER

  • Design all lighting elements for specific mainstage productions as assigned by Artistic Director and work in collaboration with Directors on specific production.
  • Oversee and execute light hang and focus for each production.
  • With Stage Manager, oversee and execute all programming and operations of lighting during technical rehearsals in preparation for performance.
  • Oversee crews as needed.
  • Collaborate with directors and Artistic Director to ensure entire visual concept is executed with attention to detail and company standards.
  • Maintain company equipment and workspaces and report status issues to company leadership.
  • Maintain budgets and operations as directed by Artistic Director and Executive Director.
  • Provide Stage Manager with cues as early as possible.
  • Design, hang and run Outdoor Concerts as assigned by company management.
  • Other duties as assigned by company leadership necessary for maintaining the integrity of the season.

 WARDROBE ASST./ CUTTER/DRAPER

  • Assist Costume Shop Manager and Assistant Costumer in all wardrobe related duties.
  • Personally oversee wardrobe maintenance and care including daily laundry for all productions.
  • Responsible to assist in building new costumes or altering existing costumes.
  • Oversee work crews as needed.
  • Serve as dresser for all mainstage productions including TYA shows.
  • Other duties as assigned by company leadership necessary for maintaining the integrity of the season.

HAIR/WIG/ MAKE-UP DESIGNER

  • Design and maintain all wig, hair and make-up designs for specific TLP productions as assigned by Artistic Director
  • Teach make-up applications to all actors needing make-up for productions
  • Responsible for ordering, maintaining and creating inventory spreadsheet for make-up and wigs.

ASSISTANT WARDROBE HEAD/ COSTUME DESIGNER

  • Assist Head of Wardrobe in all duties. Design all costume elements for specific mainstage productions as assigned by Artistic Director
  • Design all costume elements for productions as assigned.
  • Oversee work crews as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by company leadership necessary for maintaining the integrity of the season.

HEAD OF WARDROBE/ COSTUME DESIGNER

  • Execute and oversee the timely procurement, creation, load in, function and strike of all costume elements required for all productions.

  • Maintain budgets and operations as directed by Artistic Director and Executive Director.
  • Attend staff and production meetings as scheduled.
  • Other duties as assigned by company leadership necessary for maintaining the integrity of the season.

PROPERTIES MASTER/MISTRESS

  • Under supervision of and in collaboration with Scenic Designer, procure or create all stage properties, set dressings and furniture for productions.
  • Oversee crews as needed.
  • In collaboration with Scenic Designer and Technical Director, maintain prescribed budgets for all purchases related to areas of responsibility.
  • Other duties as assigned by company leadership necessary for maintaining the integrity of the season.

SCENIC ARTIST/ DESIGNER

The scenic artist works closely with the Scenic Designer in accomplishing all texture and painted effects of a production.

  • Under supervision of and in collaboration with Technical Director and Scenic Designer, serve as lead artist on all scenic elements for productions.
  • Serve as Scenic Designer for Magic Owl Children’s Theatre production and All Area Teen Production.
  • Oversee crews as needed.
  • In collaboration with Technical Director, maintain prescribed budgets for all purchases related to areas of responsibility.
  • Other duties as assigned by company leadership necessary for maintaining the integrity of the season.

SCENIC DESIGNER

  • Design all scenic elements for mainstage productions in collaboration with Artistic Director and Executive Director.
  • Collaborate with Technical Director to establish best practices in execution of scenic elements to the standards of the company.
  • With Scenic Artist, oversee and execute all paint treatments.
  • With Properties Master, oversee and execute all set dressings and furniture selection.
  • Oversee crews as needed.
  • Collaborate with directors and Artistic Director to ensure entire visual concept is executed with attention to detail and company standards.
  • Provide Assistant Stage Manager and directors with plans for backstage scenic storage and all intended scenic transitions.
  • Other duties as assigned by company leadership necessary for maintaining the integrity of the season.

2nd ASSISTANT STAGE MANAGER

  • Assist Production Stage Manager in all duties.
  • Prepare spaces for all rehearsals, including sweeping, mopping, presetting props and scenic elements, and ensuring water is available for performers and staff.
  • Responsible for assisting First Stage Manager on all deck run duties for each specific TLP production.
  • Other duties as assigned by company leadership necessary for maintaining the integrity of the season.
  • Serve as Assistant Stage Manager for all mainstage productions including management and organization of all backstage activities. Serve as Stage Manager for All-Area High School Musical.

CARPENTER

  • Assist Technical Director and Assistant Technical Director in all duties.
  • Oversee crews as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned by company leadership necessary for maintaining the integrity of the season.

TECHNICAL DIRECTOR

TIMBER LAKE PLAYHOUSE is seeking an experienced Technical Director for it’s 2019 season. The position would need to be on campus in late April, but would need to be available for video meetings and conferences by January of 2019. This position lives on campus from late April through end of September.

Job Description -Technical Director

●      Execute and oversee the timely production, load in, function and strike of all scenic elements required for the mainstage season.

●      Collaborate with Scenic Designer, Artistic Director and Production Stage Manager to ensure best practices in execution of scenic elements to the standards of the company.

●      Oversee scenic staff and shop in all daily operations.

●      Maintain company equipment and workspaces and report status issues to company leadership.

●      Maintain budgets and operations as directed by Artistic Director and Administrative Assistant (Company Manager).

●      Attend staff and production meetings as scheduled.

●      Implement the Shop and Theatre Safety Plan.

●      Other duties as assigned by company leadership necessary for maintaining the integrity of the season.

The successful candidate will have a minimum 3-5 years working in scenic shop, be a leader and be able to work in a fast-paced environment.

This is a salaried position commensurate with experience.
