From the Executive Director

I hope this finds you and your family safe and in good health.  Like many of you, I’m working from my home office in Byron but Timber Lake is not far from my thoughts.  Bill, Jen and I run the business of the theatre remotely, and Paul and I meet daily – virtually, of course, to continue building our resident company and creating scenarios where we can open the theatre again – and we’ll be ready as soon as it is safely possible.

I want to update you on how this virus has affected our programming at TLP.  We have had to cancel all events and productions through May 16 and are announcing today that we will not be opening on our usual June timeframe.  We are hopeful that we can open in early July.  Using creative programming, we are still planning to offer you a full season of TLP.  Of course, with our theatre remodeling project completed, we can start as late as September and continue into the fall and winter, as long as it is safe for us to gather again.

I’m sure all of you miss coming to our wonderful theatre in the woods as much as I do. But it will happen soon.  TLP has stood strong through the years – through those early years when our founders faced the uncertainty of how live theatre would be accepted in our rural area of Illinois, through financial hardship and even through a devastating fire, TLP has been a place for the people of northwestern Illinois to gather for nearly 60 years.  In the meantime, I invite you to visit our Facebook page. We’ll begin to post videos of our new company and snippets from seasons past.

The internet will never replace the feeling of being in the theatre, or meeting with our friends for a night out at TLP, but it’s all we have right now.  I look forward to the day that we can meet again at the playhouse and enjoy our Theatre in the Woods.
