Under the direction of and in collaboration with the Executive Director, the Artistic Director is jointly responsible for fulfilling Timber Lake Playhouse’s vision. The Artistic Director shall steward the artistic and creative direction of TLP, specifically during the Summer Subscription Series and, depending upon availability, during the preseason (May) and postseason (September) shows. S/he shall inspire, direct and manage artists and staff to create the highest quality theatre productions for the TLP community.
The Artistic Director sets the standard for and maintains a professional artistic environment becoming to a professional theatre. S/he provides appropriate discipline to company members with the advice and consent of the Executive Director, and to staff under his/her direct supervision. In all cases, enforces Board and Theatre policy.
Timber Lake Playhouse sits on ten acres of wooded land two miles south of Mount Carroll in rural Carroll County. The mainstay of TLP’s season (The Summer Subscription Series) begins productions in the first week of June and closes the third week of August. During the season, our Resident Company has the opportunity to perform in a Cabaret-style venue after Saturday night performances throughout the summer, and since TLP has just purchased the property to the south of the playhouse with a charming old barn, additional events may be programmed in that venue.
TLP offers Educational Programming, and All Area Teen production and The Magic Owl Children’s Theatre produces one show during the second week of May and one during the summer. These are all under the direction of TLP’s Education Director who reports to the Executive Director.
TLP has expanded over the past two years to include additional activities throughout the year. There are productions in May and September now known as the Jukebox Series. Musical productions such as Always…Patsy Cline, Million Dollar Quartet, and Almost Heaven, the Songs of John Denver are the typical titles produced. TLP also offers a Concert Series in May and September, a “Haunted House” on the property during Saturday nights in October, and Interactive Rocky Horror Picture Show on Halloween weekend, and is looking at expanding to a Christmas Show (not on property) in December. Depending upon interest and availability, the Artistic Director could play a role in any or all of these expanded activities.
Interested parties should begin the application process with a Letter of Interest and a Resume. The letter should briefly state their directing and management experience, availability, and how they would see themselves fitting into the TLP activities. Letters of Interest will be accepted until April 28. The first round of interviews will be held during April and May with second round during the summer. We will offer the position to the successful candidate in late summer for the 2018 season.
Salary is commensurate with education, ability, and experience.
