ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

Timber Lake Playhouse, the premiere professional summer stock theatre located near Mt Carroll, IL is accepting applications for the position of Artistic Director (AD).

Under the direction of and in collaboration with the Executive Director, the Artistic Director is jointly responsible for fulfilling Timber Lake Playhouse’s vision.  The Artistic Director shall steward the artistic and creative direction of TLP.  S/he shall inspire, direct and manage artists and staff to create the highest quality theatre productions for the TLP community.

The Artistic Director sets the standard for and maintains a professional artistic environment becoming to a professional theatre.  The AD provides appropriate discipline to company members and to staff under his/her direct supervision with the advice and consent of the Executive Director.  In all cases, the AD enforces Board and Theatre policy.

Timber Lake Playhouse sits on ten acres of wooded land two miles south of Mount Carroll in rural Carroll County.  The mainstay of TLP’s season (The Summer Subscription Series) begins productions in the first week of June and closes the third week of August.  The Magic Owl Children’s Theatre produces one show during the second week of May and one during the summer.

TLP has expanded over the past two years to include productions in May and September now known as the Jukebox Series.  Musical productions such as Always…Patsy Cline, Million Dollar Quartet, and Almost Heaven, the Songs of John Denver are the typical titles produced.  TLP also offers an expanded Educational Program over the summer including three workshops and an All-Area Teen Production.  Last summer’s School of Rock was very popular both with area teens and with our TLP audiences selling out four performances.

TLP also offers a Concert Series in May and September, a “Haunted House” on the property during Saturday nights in October, and is looking at expanding to a Christmas Show (not on property) in December.  During the season, our Resident Company has the opportunity to perform in a Cabaret-style venue after Saturday night performances throughout the summer, and since TLP has just purchased the property to the south of the playhouse with a charming old barn, additional events may be programmed in that venue.

Salary is commensurate with education, ability, and experience.

Interested parties should begin the application process with a Letter of Interest and a Resume.  The letter should briefly state their directing and management experience, availability, and how they would see themselves fitting into the TLP activities.  Letters of Interest will be accepted until March 31.  The first round of interviews will be held during April and May with second round during the summer.  We will offer the position to the successful candidate in late summer for the 2018 season.
